An independent, international review found that our clients had among the highest satisfaction scores in centers across the globe.
The Mission
The mission of the Intensive Outpatient Programs at Mental Health Resources, PLLC in Memphis, TN is to provide cost effective, high quality mental health treatment in the least restrictive setting to psychologically distressed or substance using individuals. MHR’s IOPs were developed expressly for the purpose of accommodating the trends toward reduced hospital stays and to provide intensive treatment in an outpatient setting. We are committed to preventing hospitalization and treating the individual in their natural environment, if the patient can be safely treated in an outpatient setting. Most individuals who enter IOP do so in the midst of a crisis and require frequent, intensive, contact. To meet this need, we have daily immediate urgent appointments for rapid assessment and crisis intervention.
Our IOP’s consist of three hours of group based treatment programming per day, conducted in our private offices. Our IOP’s provide traditional group psychotherapy, skills training, and focused psycho-educational groups led by trained therapists and counselors that are designed to meet the needs of the individuals in treatment. We may supplement IOP with other treatment modalities available in the Memphis area, such as individual, couples or family therapy, support groups, church, AA, Al-Anon, Nar-Anon, Smartrecovery etc. While we have psychiatrists on staff, we honor all existing treatment relationships with external providers and strive to coordinate your care with any treating providers, including those prescribing psychiatric medication. We recognize that our treatment program is only one of many in Memphis and that others may be better suited for particular individuals requiring services beyond our scope (e.g., those who are medically unstable, are in imminent danger, severely mentally ill, require hospitalization, etc.). When necessary, we will draw upon these other resources in Memphis to aid us in meeting our stated objectives. Our IOP is the only one in Memphis that is based on sound scientific principles, using evidence based treatment, in a private practice, office based setting. We are also the only intensive outpatient program in Memphis that has proven outcomes, which have passed the rigors of scientific peer review, and been published in clinical research journals. Our outcomes have been published in peer reviewed journals published by the American Psychological Association, including the American Psychologist; Psychotherapy: Theory, Research and Practice; Professional Psychology: Research and Practice; Journal of Dual Diagnosis, as well as in the multidisciplinary journal, American Journal of Orthopsychiatry, and in the Behavioral Outcomes and Guidelines Sourcebook. A description of our IOP also appeared in the American Psychiatric Association’s journal, Psychiatric Services. See our download page for copies of some of these articles.

Substance Abuse/Dual Diagnosis
The co-occurrence of substance use and psychiatric disorders is the norm, not the exception, for those addicted to alcohol &/or drugs. In fact, psychological research has shown that people exposed to stress are more likely to engage in drug and alcohol abuse, continue using, or to experience a relapse. This means that for a successful recovery, both the addiction and the mental health issues must be adequately treated.
