Mary Statum, LPC-MHSP

Mary Statum, M.S., is an LPC-MHSP in Tennessee and a National Certified Counselor (NCC). She is experienced working with mood disorders and substance abuse problems. Mary uses a variety of evidence-based approaches such as Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She is Level I and Level II trained in EMDR. She has worked in the inpatient, outpatient, and partial hospitalization levels of care in addition to private practice. She is a Contractor for the Shelby County Treatment Courts: Veterans Court, Drug Court and Mental Health Court.

Mary enjoys seeing clients from all walks of life. She has years of experience working with clients who have been incarcerated, those who ascribe to any religious or non-religious belief system, and she welcomes the LGBTQIA+ community. She embraces cultural diversity. She is known for providing a caring, compassionate, nurturing, nonjudgmental, and safe environment.

Her first career was with the Corps of Engineers for many years. After developing a passion for the field of Mental Healthcare, Mary achieved her Bachelor’s and went on to achieve her Master’s in Counseling from the University of Memphis, embarking on her second profession. Mary enjoys being a living example of how people can usually change their circumstances if they are not satisfied with their current life’s path!

Mary’s interests outside of work include spending time with loved ones and enjoying the Science Fiction entertainment genre.
